The study of management and impact of automatic technologies and maintenance in mining is of increasing interest for mining operations. These topics are some of the main challenges facing the mining industry in its strive to be both efficient and effective. Conferences organised by Gecamin in this area are:
International Mining Plant Maintenance Meeting
This meeting is held annually. The eighth and most recent version was held in September 2011 in Antofagasta, Chile, and was organised by Gecamin and The School of Mechanics and Mining of the University of Queensland, Australia. The technical programme included 34 presentations by authors representing 10 countries. Delegates from 31 mining companies were among the 284 participants who attended.

In addition to the congresses and meetings previously mentioned, Gecamin has organised workshops of international origin, which are held periodically in different host countries. This applies to:
Workshop on Automation in Mining, Mineral and Metal Industry
This workshop was first organised by the International Federation of Automatic Control. It is held every three years and in 2009 it was hosted in Viña del Mar, Chile by Gecamin and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. The technical programme included 66 presentations by authors representing 22 countries. Delegates from 22 mining companies were among the 225 participants who attended. The next IFAC MMM will be held in 2012 in Gifu, Japan.
