Areas of Interest

Geology and Mining

Geological and mining sciences provide critical information for identifying, developing and adding economic value to the exploitation of mineral resources through the timely delivery of information. Moreover, they provide knowledge of the relevant natural variables as well as technical and economic criteria which impact the planning, design, exploitation and mineral processing. Gecamin conferences related to this area include:

International Seminar on Geology for the Mining Industry
This seminar is held every two years. The most recent version was held in June 2011 in Antofagasta, Chile, and was organised by Gecamin and The Colorado School of Mines, USA. The technical programme included 43 presentations by authors representing six countries. Delegates from 29 mining companies were among the 213 participants who attended.
International Seminar on Mine Planning
This seminar is held every two years. The most recent version was held in June 2011 in Antofagasta, Chile, and was organised by Gecamin, the Department of Mining Engineering of the Universidad de Chile and The Colorado School of Mines, USA. The technical programme included 40 presentations by authors representing 7 countries. Delegates from 31 mining companies were among the 213 participants who attended.
International Seminar on Geology for the Mining Industry
This seminar is held every two years. The last version was held in December 2012 in Santiago, Chile, and was organized by Gecamin and The Institute for Applied Economic Geology (GEA), from the University of Concepción, Chile. The technical program included 40 presentations by authors representing seven countries. Delegates from 21 mining companies were among the 167 participants who attended. The next version will be held in November 2016 in Santiago, Chile.
International Conference on Innovation in Mine Operations
This conference is held every two years. The fourth and most recent version of this event was held in June 2012 in Santiago, Chile, and was organised by Gecamin and W.H. Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre, The University of Queensland. The technical programme included 51 presentations by authors representing 11 countries. Delegates from 14 mining companies were among the 150 participants who attended.

In addition to the conferences and seminars previously mentioned, Gecamin has organised events of international origin, which are held periodically in different host countries. This applies to:

VIII International Geostatistics Congress
This congress is held every four years. The eighth and most recent version of this event was held in December 2008 in Santiago, Chile, and was organised by Gecamin and the Department of Mining Engineering of the Universidad de Chile. The technical programme included 103 presentations by authors representing 25 countries. Delegates from 36 mining companies were among the 320 participants who attended. The next version will be held in June 2012 in Oslo, Norway.
