Enviromine 2015 will address issues such as the environment and sustainability in mining

The 4th International Seminar on Environmental Issues in Mining, Enviromine 2015, is an opportunity to share best environmental practices within the mining industry.

The 4th International Seminar on Environmental Issues in Mining, Enviromine 2015, will be held for the first time in Lima, at the Marriott Hotel, from December 2 - 4 and will focus on the evaluation and control of environmental impacts in mining processes.

Enviromine 2015 will seek to report on and analyze innovations and developments in the prediction, evaluation and control of environmental impacts in mining and metallurgical processes. In addition, the aim is to encourage the exchange of experiences on issues such as mine waste management and hazardous waste; sustainable use of water and wastewater treatment; environmental design of mining projects; prevention and control of environmental impacts; soil reclamation, revegetation and biodiversity; geochemistry mining environments and socio-environmental aspects.

The preliminary program, made up of more than 40 papers from 17 countries, includes two courses which will be run prior to the seminar and will focus on the management of mining waste and environmental impact. The first course is entitled "Mining Waste Management: From Design to Closure" and the second is  "Modeling of Acid Mine Drainage: Implementation for Design and Decision Making”.

The Seminar is organized by the Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation of the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), University of Queensland in Australia; the National Engineering University of Peru and Gecamin. It will be chaired by Alejandro Hermoza, Vice President of Social and Environmental Affairs of mining company Buenaventura, and co-chaired by David Mullign who is Director of the Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation, SMI, University of Queensland, Australia.

The Conference seeks to promote the development of an international and multidisciplinary network for collaboration and support amongst professionals in the environmental and mining areas.
