The seminar -which will be chaired by Sergio Valdebenito, Plants and Tailings Manager, Minera Los Pelambres, Chile- has over 45 approved abstracts and two confirmed panel confirmed.

April 28 2015

Tailings are an increasingly recurrent theme in both the mining industry and within the communities in general, as the increased tailings production in mining and the increased size of deposits pose great challenges. This is related to physical stability and water recovery, both relevant aspects in order to obtain a social license to operate.

Within this framework, the 3rd International Seminar on Tailings Management -Tailings 2015- which will take place from August 19-21 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Santiago, Chile-, will be the perfect instance for discussion. Among the themes covered will be: classification, thickening and filtration; conventional and thickened tailings; chemical and salt water usage; stability in the wake of earthquakes; and regulations and manuals for tailings deposits.

The preliminary program includes over 45 approved abstracts by authors from 11 countries, among which are Australia, Chile, France, Peru and the USA.

Moreover, there will be two panel discussions: “Integrating Tailings Design and Operation for Enhanced Productivity” and “The Future of Tailings Management.”

Tailings 2015 -organized by University of British Columbia and Gecamin- will be chaired by Sergio Valdebenito, Plants and Tailings Manager, Minera Los Pelambres, Chile; and Dirk van Zyl, Professor from the NBK Institute of Mining Engineering, University of British Columbia, Canada, will act as co-chair.
