Desalination and wastewater treatment, as well as industrial effluents through membrane technologies have arrived in Latin America.
Seawater use has positioned itself as the main source of water supply in many parts of the region. However, new increasingly demanding environmental regulations require the use of more advanced technologies, such as desalination.
This is the focus for the 4th Latin American Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse, Desal 2014, whose slogan is “Latin America: The new frontier for desalination development”. The event will take place from October 15-17 at The Sheraton Hotel in Santiago, Chile, and already has over 40 approved abstracts from 12 countries, among which are Australia, Brazil, Israel, Peru, Spain and The United States.
In this version of the meeting, the main themes will be design, construction, operation and maintenance of desalination plants; reuse of wastewater; effluent treatment based on membrane technology; and environmental aspects of desalination and marine works.
The congress -organized by the Latin American Association of Desalination and Water Reuse (ALADYR) and the company Gecamin- is held every two years and brought together over 200 participants from 13 countries in the year 2012.
