Maplemin 2014, to take place in Peru, will analyze best practices in mining plant and equipment maintenance

The first edition of the International Seminar on Mining Plant and Equipment Maintenance, Maplemin 2014, will include 40 presentations by authors from 10 countries.

Learning about and analyzing best practices used in asset management and mining plant and equipment maintenance will be the cornerstone of the First International Seminar on Mining Plant and Equipment Maintenance, Maplemin 2014, to take place July 2-4, 2014 at the Marriott Hotel in Lima, Peru.

The event is chaired by Edmundo Mares, Regional Senior Manager of Energy and Maintenance for Barrick South America, and co-chaired by José Bolaños, Projects Manager, Kinross Gold Corporation, Brazil. Mares will deliver the opening lecture “A new way of managing assets to increase efficiency in the mining business”.

The seminar’s program includes 40 technical presentations from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Peru, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, and the USA.

Six plenary presentations are also confirmed by professionals from Barrick Gold Corporation, Canada; Kinross Gold Corporation, Brazil; Pontificia Universidad Católica, Chile; University of Cincinnati, USA; Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi, Chile; El Teniente Division, Codelco, Chile; and Minera Los Pelambres, Chile.

Moreover, there will be two panel discussions: “Maintenance and security” and “From the simple to the complex: looking for results”, which will be moderated by Edmundo Mares and Benjamín Barriga from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Perú.

As complementary activities, prior to the seminar there will be two short professional development courses: “Optimization of the maintenance management” and “Evaluation and prediction of the structural integrity of mine and plant equipment”.

The seminar, organized by the National Engineering University of Peru (UNI), the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile and the company Gecamin, seeks to strengthen collaboration networks and information exchange amongst mining maintenance professionals in the region.
