There are 814 abstracts approved from 47 countries that form the part of the preliminary program of the XXVII International Mineral Processing Congress. IMPC 2014 will be held in Chile for the first time and that is expected to gather over one thousand mining professionals.
With more than 60 years of history, this meeting has become the most prestigious global forum in order to promote scientific and technical knowledge in the mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
The IMPC 2014 Chair and the professor of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa Maria of Chile, Juan Yianatos, said that the fact that our country has been chosen to host the next IMPC “is a clear demonstration of the importance of Chile as a mining country and especially of the mining professionals’ recognition”.
The professor pointed out that that nowadays our country maintains the third part of global copper production. From this, about 70% corresponds to the sulphide minerals of copper that are processed in the concentration plants, in what is known as Mineral Processing. Besides, Chile has 21% of the reserves of molybdenum, 14% of silver and 7% of the world´s gold reserves.
Romke Kuyvenhoven, IMPC 2014 Congress Manager, said that “it is important for Chile to host the Congress, since we expect that the experience gained serves to continue turning our rich reserves into successful mining operations that contribute the country´s economic development”.
Also, Romke Kuyvenhoven added that “the central theme of IMPC matches one of the main values pursued by the national mining industry, which is the optimization of water and energy use in sustainable mining”.
This congress is organized by the Universidad de Chile, the Universidad de Concepción, the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, el Colegio de Ingenieros de Chile (Chilean Council of Engineers) and GECAMIN company. It will be held on October 20-24, 2014 in Sheraton Hotel, Santiago.
In order to facilitate the worldwide participation of professionals in IMPC, the organizers have generated a 30% discount until December 31, with which it is expected to exceed the considered one thousand participants in the congress planning.
