The significant presence of industry representatives, both as presenters and the number of participants, demonstrates the industry’s commitment to contribute and share experiences on the important topic of mining maintenance.
The above was stated by Víctor Babarovich, technical coordinator of the 10th International Conference on Mining Plant Maintenance, Mapla 2013, and the 8th International Meeting on Mine Equipment Maintenance, Mantemin 2013, conferences held in parallel gathering nearly 350 participants.
Babarovich stressed that the technical program, made up of 62 presentations from 12 countries, featured a wide range of topics and experiences, among which were some presented by professionals from Codelco’s El Teniente division, Anglo American’s Los Bronces and CAP Mining’s El Romeral.
Some of the general challenges that were talked about were how to develop efficient management based on methods or simple techniques and recognizing the importance of better management of information used for decision making. “We can conclude that these are the largest challenges today based on the experiences shared here by operation and maintenance professionals,” the technical coordinator indicated.
Mapla and Mantemin were organized by Gecamin, the University of Queensland and the University of Toronto and chaired by important representatives of the Chilean industry. The president of Mapla this year is Sergio Armstrong, Maintenance Manager at Minera Candelaria while Mantemin is presided by Julio Díaz, Mine Manager at Minera Esperanza, Chile.
