Some of the presentations that form part of the Mapla and Mantemin meetings include strategies regarding maintenance for machinery as relevant as front loaders for the underground mine El Teniente, as well as replacing the 240 metric ton trucks at the Los Bronces Mine. The meetings will be held from September 4-6 at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago, Chile.

Said meetings refer to the 10th International Meeting on Mining Plant Maintenance, Mapla 2013, and the 8th International Meeting on Mine Equipment Maintenance, Mantemin 2013, whose joint technical program includes a total of 62 presentations from 12 countries.

Authors from Codelco’s El Teniente Division will present a study outlining reliability, maintainability and availability designed to optimize the current maintenance strategy of loaders, the machinery used to extract the majority of what is produced in the underground mine. The main objective of the study is part of the overall plan to reduce costs in the division.

As far as the paper regarding the anticipated replacement of Minera Los Bronces truck fleet, the author will present a study that simulated the benefits of moving up the replacement of nine 240 ton trucks which near 90,000 hours in operation with an average projected service life up to 100,000 hours.

The CAP Minas El Romeral Mining Company will present an experience regarding the implementation of a condition monitoring system in the open-pit mine by analyzing equipment vibrations. The authors will present the methodology used which considered tracking a computer using monthly measurements, allowing them to generate a model for identifying causes and establishing corrections for the detected anomalies.

Mapla and Mantemin are organized by Gecamin, The University of Queensland, and the University of Toronto and are chaired by renowned representatives from the Chilean mining industry. Sergio Armstrong, Maintenance Manager at Minera Candelaria, will chair Mapla while Julio Díaz, Mine Manager at Minera Esperanza, Chile will chair Mantemin.
