Hydrometallurgical processes are of significant importance in the mining industry because they can generate high purity metals from low-grade ores using clean technologies at very low operating costs.
What impact does hydrometallurgy have in mining operations?
Some of the main impacts are that we can benefit economically from low-grade ores which, in some cases, would be wasted. Also, these processes do not contaminate the environment and generate high quality products and, finally, they use less water and energy resources compared to other mineral treatment processes.
As Chair of Hydroprocess 2016, what are your expectations for this seminar?
Despite the challenges we are currently experiencing due to the low metal prices, I expect that the attendance rate of professionals working in the area of hydrometallurgy will be high and that, together, we can share experiences by attending lectures and a panel discussion. This learning will help us to maximize the economic benefit of the hydrometallurgical business in our respective companies.
