The University of Antofagasta

The University of Antofagasta is a state, regional, secular and pluralistic institution dedicated to training professionals with a deep sense of responsibility and a strong set of values. The University promotes the transfer of knowledge in science and technology through research and innovation and also assumes the responsibility to contribute to the social mobility of its graduates; in turn contributing to regional and national development.

In the field of mining, the university has a PhD program in Mineral Process Engineering which has been accredited for the past five years, as well as a Master’s program in the same specialty with six years of accreditation. Both programs are a response to the need to generate knowledge and facilitate innovation and technological development in the mining industry. Postgraduates are therefore able to undertake scientific and technological class research and to apply their knowledge in original ways, with an emphasis on industrial processes.

Antofagasta in the mining capital of Chile and is considered a natural laboratory for those interested in mining processes. The University is therefore in a prime location with easy access to the mining industry where students can create important relationships.

The Doctoral Program has been accredited for five years (until May 2015) by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA) and currently has a faculty of 12 academics with more than 6 guest professors. There are 24 regular students, 33% international from countries such as Bolivia, Peru and Russia.

Double degree programs exist with: Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland), University of Valladolid (Spain) and the University of Barcelona (Spain).

Gecamin is a Chilean company with 17 years of experience organizing technical and international conferences for the mining industry. Our conferences aim to inform and inspire professionals from all over the world, fostering the exchange of best practices and innovative experiences.

In 2014, Gecamin organized 11 conferences and 12 courses, with a total of 922 technical presentations, gathering 2,947 delegates from 54 countries. Additionally, a total of 734 delegates from mining sites attended, and a book with the proceedings was published for each conference.
